APOD: 2011 May 17 - A Starry Night of Iceland

great music

dont remember how i happened across it but gogoyoko.com is my new favourite music site. it’s like a icelandic emusic. i am discovering such great music every day like Low Roar and Luna. thats not to say it’s just icelandic music they have a good selection of indie music including radiohead. but Iceland what is in your water?!?! you have amazing music both in english and in icelandic, like this shit should be on the radio and plastered over peoples facebook profiles not foster and the people for the billionth time. that not to say i don’t like foster and the people but seriously people need to switch it up a but now and then. iceland is just this amazing country full of great music, beautiful people, and the most amazing landscapes i have ever seen.

here for example is a beautiful dreamy number by Rokkurro ( excuse my spelling there should be some umlauts and accents on some letters but i don’t remember how to do those) http://www.gogoyoko.com/song/109769

Jar City, a focus on food (by isynge)

watched Jar city last night an netflix. it was pretty good, this neat exploration into cause and effect of past impacting on the present and the future and regrets of what we wish we could of taken back or fixed. while i am not going to get into the whole plot of the movie. i wanted to bring up this one scene. when i was in Iceland i stayed in Reykjavik for a few days and loved it. it was great seeing places i’d been to and streets i had walked down in the movie. the main character here is ordering sheep’s head from this one restaurant in Reykjavik. it is right in the main bus terminal BSI and i was probably there the most out of all the places in that city just because of getting buses for tours and getting to other cities. went to that restaurant (forget what it’s called) and saw the boiled sheep’s head and just was struck by how minimalist it was. this dark grey head with the white bones protruding in places. teeth and eyes grinning at you. i didnt know how you ate it or how you could in fact eat it.

also a question to anyone out there. have you ever eatin the sheep’s head from that restaurant? how is it?
